The gymnasium addition is part of a larger project for Eden Prairie schools that consists of 82,000 SF of additions including a theater, a gymnasium and classrooms as well as 50,000 SF of internal remodeling. The gymnasium addition will occur on the south side of the school, adjacent to the existing gymnasium. It will be 12,000 SF and include a new lobby space to accommodate parents and the public during events. It will be primarily used as instructional space but will be designed to give the community access to the gymnasium spaces, including the existing gyms, after hours.

The gymnasium will be part of a larger group of four other gymnasiums to create an athletics/physical education area in the school. The location of the new gym and the expansion of the locker rooms helps to create an independent area of the school that can be separated from the private classroom areas.This will allow it to be used after hours without opening the rest of the school to the public.

There is a total of six new locker rooms two for each grade level. The locker rooms were designed to give students choice in privacy by providing private as well as group dressing and shower areas. They are also intentionally more open without any unsupervisable areas to improve student safety.
